When To Use Beard Butter For The Best Results

4 minute read

We're going to discuss the best time to start using beard butter so you can get the best possible results.  First, if you're not familiar with the beard butter, it's used to help make the beard softer, make the beard hairs less brittle and dry, make the beard easier to style by providing hold to the beard, and giving the beard an overall healthier look.

Let's take a practical look at when to use beard butter to get optimal results.

First, if you have any of the following, it's a great time to start using beard butter:

  • Itchy Beard
  • Dry Beard
  • Dull Looking Beard
  • Messy Beard
  • Over 1/2 Inch Of Length

A dry, itchy beard can be easily alleviated by using beard oil, beard balm, or beard butter.  So if you're beard has even a slight itch or discomfort to it, consider using butter.  If your beard looks dull or somewhat "flat," give a little bit of beard butter a try.  Just a small amount of beard butter should bring out the shine. If you have a messy-looking beard, it might be time to use beard butter as well.  Keep in mind that I am not talking about a bad trim but rather a beard with random hairs sticking out all over.  If your beard looks like that, applying some beard butter can help neatly straighten it out.

Long Beard Versus A Short Beard

Does it matter whether or not you use beard butter on a long beard or a short beard?  Not really, as beard butter will help enhance either long or short.  Ultimately, it comes down to preference as some guys may prefer an oil or balm instead of butter, which we talk about here.  However, we'll note that beard butter has a little less hold than a balm but more hold than beard oil.

Morning Versus Night

Does it matter what time of day you use beard butter?  Not really; however, I want to offer you a couple of tips for getting the most out of your use.  I highly recommend using beard balm on your beard after you take your morning shower.  Simply towel dry your beard after your morning shower, making sure the beard is mostly dry, get dressed, and then apply your favorite scent.  I am also a big fan of a small reapplication of beard butter just before bed too.  This can help relax the beard hairs overnight, and a great smelling beard butter (like any of ours) can help make you feel refreshed and relaxed before an awesome night of slumber.

Some guys also like a mid-day application in between their morning and night routines.  If your beard feels a bit dry or brittle in the middle of the day, I see no issue with this.  Some guys also like to have the mid-day touch-up because it makes their beard smell amazing again in the middle of the day.

Curly Beard Versus A Straight Beard

Does it matter if you use beard butter on a straight beard or a curly beard?  Nope!  Again, it simply comes down to preference.  You can use beard butter on any type of beard, and it simply comes down to whether you like beard oil, beard balm, or beard butter better.

Young Versus Old

Does age matter?  No way!  Though your beard can change texture and color as you age, you can use whatever beard grooming products you want at your age.  So don't let age be a factor when considering when to sue a beard butter or not!

Can I Save Money Using Beard Butter Over Oil?

This is an actual question we get from time to time, and it's actually a good question.  Considering most of our jars of beard butter costs 24.95, and our average beard oil is 14.95, it seems like our butter costs more than our oil.  However, our butters are 4 oz. Jars and our beard oils are 1 oz. Bottles.  Both can last a while, but for me personally, my butter typically seems to last longer than my oil. Sometimes this simply comes down to testing to find which product gives you the best results.  It doesn't hurt to read through the reviews of our products to see what the rest of the world thinks before you get started, though!

So to summarize, beard butter can be used in almost every situation where you use beard oil or balm.  However, it simply comes down to preference and how the different products feel on your skin.
